DOG TREATS: Kids from the Goldendale Primary School collected cleaning supplies and goodies to help Dogs of the Gorge (DOG).

The Goldendale Primary School is a Leader In Me School, and each year the different grade levels choose a Leadership project to engage in.

For the 2018-19 school year, the three third-grade classrooms at Goldendale Primary decided to focus their Leadership efforts on the Dogs of the Gorge organization. Dogs of the Gorge is a local non-profit organization helping Klickitat County re-home and adopt out dogs in need. They are a group of volunteers working on solving the homeless pet population in Klickitat County through fostering, spay/neuter and education. Erin Klejeski said, "My students were thrilled to help out animals in need."

Items that were collected by Klejeski, Katie Gilliam, and Danielle Blain's classrooms included Lysol wipes, Lysol liquid cleaners, canned dog food, dry puppy food, rawhides, dog toys, and blankets. Blain said, "Many of our students have dogs at home, and they felt very connected to this leadership project."

At the end of May, all items that were collected were given to Lisa Mabrey, founder of Dogs of the Gorge. Gilliam said, "The students were so excited to see the donations piling up."

Mabrey came to the classrooms to pick up the donated items, and she said she was moved by the students' support.
