Ruben Michael Martinez

Ruben, as he was known to his friends, passed away suddenly on June 10, 2019.

Some stars shine so brightly that they burn out before their time, Ruben was one of those stars. He was born Sept. 2, 1955, in Casper, WY. He attended Washington State University, before enlisting in the Navy. After he was discharged, he started a survey company in Scappoose, Oregon. Ruben was a surveyor for many years and traveled all over for his work. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping gardening and music. He loved water, lakes, creeks, ponds and streams He was an avid fan of the Washington State University Cougar football team, as well as the Seattle Seahawks. You could often find him at his favorite local pub enjoying the games, friends, a pint or two, and his favorite music. Friends always knew when Ruben had been there by the music. His smile always brightened the room, and his laugh was intoxicating. He loved to wear his Santa suit; he looked the part perfectly. He is survived by family and friends who love him and will miss him. Ruben will forever be in our hearts and souls.

Ruben's memory will be honored on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at his favorite place to be around his friends: Jakes Place, located at 8039 SE 17th Ave., Portland, Oregon. Potluck will start at 2 p.m. Come share your favorite stories, memories, pictures, drinks, and music of Ruben with his friends and family. Come as you are, stay as long as you can. Let's give Ruben the sendoff he deserves. It's better to burn out then to fade away.
