Pig roast coming

Former Glenwood kid Blake Masden of Centerville, son of Colby and Lacey Masden, qualified for the Junior High School Rodeo National Finals by placing third in Washington State Junior HS Rodeo. He wasn’t successful on either bull ride at Nationals in Huron, South Dakota, but found it to be a great learning experience. After the national finals, Blake, his sister Kaitlyn, and parents traveled to the Silver State Rodeo in Winnemucca, Nevada. Blake, grandson of Kelly and Bob Henderson and great-grandson of Richard and Karen Hansen, competed in steer bareback and chute dogging events where he placed first and fourth, respectively, in those events. He took home a nice saddle and buckle for his win. Congratulations, Blake.

Mount Adams Resource Stewards are hosting their second annual pig roast at Camp Draper on July 16. Please bring a side dish, salad, or dessert to share, and lawn chairs, too. MARS will furnish the pork and cold drinks. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Here’s one more reminder about the upcoming community barbecue hosted by the Glenwood Community Church. All are welcome to attend the barbecue on July 27 from 1 p.m. to 5 pm. at Hoodenpyl park next to the Grange hall. There will be games for all ages, live music featuring Roosevelt Road (bluegrass), and, of course, food. The church will provide hamburgers and hot dogs. Please bring side dishes and desserts if you are able.

Doug Daniels reports that our June 2019 rainfall was 0.07 inches. The high over the last 24 years of record keeping was 2.1 inches in 2000, the low was 0.7 in 2011, and the 24-year average is 0.83 inches. Thanks for sharing these statistics with us, Doug.
