CURIOUS SCOUTS: Girl Scouts from around Washington gathered at Brooke Memorial State Park last weekend.

With curious minds and an eagerness to pursue adventure and explore nature, the Girl Scouts of America are taking an active role in state parks. This past weekend, July 13-14, marked the first annual Girl Scouts Love State Parks event. This event offers thousands of girls and their families to participate in outdoor activities in over 100 state parks-with one major one taking place here near Goldendale, at Brooks Memorial State Park.

The Girl Scouts Love State Parks event at Brooks included families from Benton, Franklin, and Yakima Counties. The families participated in nature walks, bird and macro invertebrate identification, gold panning, a trip to Stonehenge for a late evening star vi...
