July 3, 1919 – 100 Years Ago

N.B. Brooks finished burning the first kiln of brick Tuesday morning this week. The kiln contained 200,000 good grade bricks and will be used in the new Ledbetter-Wallace warehouse and a part installment on the new high school building. Another kiln will be started at once and will be enlarged until time for supplying brick for the high school here and at Centerville. $600 worth of old lumber and cord wood went into the fire on the kiln. Finished this week, so brick does cost something to make.
