Larry J. Cornelius

 

Larry J. Cornelius, proud patriot, US Navy veteran, and country boy at heart, died on Saturday, July 6, 2019.

Larry loved the Los Angeles Lakers, NASCAR, Willie Nelson, Bud Light, ice cream, and his Weber. He enjoyed tending to his hillside home, camping near and far, spending time with his family, neighbors, and friends at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Columbia Avenue Baptist Church.

Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Irene Brown and Peter Francis Cornelius on October 2, 1937, Larry graduated from high school and promptly enlisted in the Navy to serve his country. Later, he worked as a research and development assistant at Hughes Aircraft Company. Larry married Sally Virginia Johnson in the Queen Mary Wedding Chapel by the sea in Long Beach, California, on October 2, 1971.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sally Cornelius, daughters, Shelly (Paul) Buchanan and Shawna Ruiz, nephew, Michael (Debbie) Shepard, nieces, Cindy Brown and Susie (Tracy) Dalton, his grandchildren, Myles Buchanan, Forrest Ruiz, Lilah Buchanan, Theodore Buchanan, and Charlotte Ruiz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene Brown and Peter Francis Cornelius, and sister, Beverly Kelly (Alphonsus).

A graveside burial will take place on Aug. 3, 2019, at 2 o'clock at the Mountain View I.O.O.F Cemetery in Goldendale, Washington.
