Hiking trail links The Dalles with Troutdale

CELEBRATION AND PROTEST: A group of excited promoters cut the ribbon on a new stretch of hiking trail Saturday, while a group of protestors took issue with inaccessibility.

The prospect of a complete hiking and bike trail from Troutdale to The Dalles got a step closer Saturday when a three-mile stretch of new trail from Wyeth to Lindsey Creek was dedicated and opened to the public.

Several hundred people were on hand for the dedication ceremony, which included brief remarks from various officials and a ribbon cutting.

With the opening, 68 of the 73 miles between Troutdale and The Dalles are completed, leaving only the five-mile stretch from Viento to Ruthton Point, where a new Mitchell Point Tunnel will be constructed.
