WHAT? A NEW ALUMINUM PLANT?: A blast from Goldendale's heyday, aluminum plants are in a resurgence. But sometimes they come laden with scary foreign involvement. This one in Kentucky may be partly funded by Russian mafia money.

Say, Goldendale, here's an idea: start up an aluminum plant!

Oh, yeah. Been there, done that. But that's exactly what other parts of the country are doing now, incredibly enough. Years after aluminum manufacturing seemed to have disappeared forever from the American workplace, it's coming back. But not to Goldendale.

The most prominent example of the resurrection of aluminum plants is one in Kentucky. Braidy Industries is launching a big one in Ashland, Kentucky, to make rolled aluminum. It seems to shine with the prospect of more jobs-600 at the plant itself and creating an estimated 18,000 more across the state-and a boosted economy.
