Trove of WWII photos found
September 4, 2019
Last week out of the second floor of the Sentinel building and out of the mists of history emerged a unique and remarkable set of photographs. Enclosed in a old manila envelope were 10 pictures of vintage aircraft, along with an award citation to Pete May, the longtime editor and owner of the Sentinel; the citation, dated July 12, 1944, was issued to him 12 years before he came to the Sentinel. It was from a company called Columbia Aircraft Industries thanking May for a suggestion he made to the company. Presently we don’t know if the citation had anything to do with the photographs it was with, but it’s reasonable to presume there was a connection.
