August 23, 1899 – 120 Years Ago

Arrangements are maturing for the launching of a new newspaper at this place by the end of October. Parties interested have decided to make it a good agriculture and local paper, having for a name “Agricultural Journal.” It will be neutral in politics and will be issued the latter part of the week. It will start publication with 500 paid up home subscribers.

While in the Simcoe Mountains last week looking after cattle, County Commissioner Jacob Crocker and Loris Yeackel, who was over from Toppenish, killed a black bear, estimated to weigh 400 pounds. The beast was first wounded by shot, which made him angry and...
