Gilbert hearing stirs controversy

Controversy continues to swirl around the upcoming sentence hearing for Jeremiah Gilbert, the man who killed two men outside Centerville in 1992. His hearing, triggered by changes in federal and state laws that govern sentencing for crimes committed when individuals were juveniles, is Sept. 24 here in Goldendale.

Gilbert was 15 when he shot and killed the men after he and a friend, Shannon Rau, stole a tractor and were trying to steal a truck. He also fired at a bow hunter in the nearby woods, Farrell Harris, who escaped injury.
