School observes 100 years in same building

LOOKING GOOD AT 100: The Centerville School, with classes and teachers shown here, is a century old this year.

The Centerville school is excitedly celebrating its centennial this school year. The school opened in September of 1919 and has been continuously functioning in the same building ever since.

The school started when the district decided to consolidate the many one-room schoolhouses in our area into one central location. The first graduating class consisted of six girls, whose descendants still live and work in the area.

Principal Kristin Cameron, students, parents, and community members are planning events throughout the school year which will culminate on May 1 with a parade though Centerville with guest speakers. May 2 will have a reunion field day and activities for all graduates of the...
