Ernest Leroy House was born in Hood River, Oregon, on Sept. 22, 1931, to parents Chester and Gladys (Richardson) House. He graduated from Kalama High School in 1950 and joined the United States Air Force. Ernie married Mavis Ann Halladay in Fremont, Nebraska, on Dec. 10, 1954. He retired from the Air Force and later worked for the Goldendale aluminum plant and served as a reserve deputy sheriff. Ernie was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Independent Order of Oddfellows, serving as the Washington State Grand Master three times. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and tinkering, and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Mr. House passed away in The Dalles, Oregon, on Oct. 10, 2019 at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife Mavis House of The Dalles; children Angela House of The Dalles, Marla Lessner and her husband Bill of Schererville, Indiana, Michele Stanley of Roosevelt, Washington, Michael House and his wife Lyn of Goldendale, and Tammie Cook of Goldendale; brothers Chester "Dick" House of Anchorage, Alaska, and Arthur House of Goldendale; 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sons Roy House in 1996 and Marc House in 1965, and brothers James "Bud" House, Frederick "Fritz" House, and Thomas House.
A graveside service with military honors was held at Mountain View IOOF Cemetery in Goldendale on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019, with a memorial service following at Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel. To send condolences to the House family, please visit http://www.gardnerfh.com.
