Here are the contest winners

November 6, 2019

Our Klickwood volleyball team, the 2019 Greater Columbia Gorge 1B league champions, definitely had the most fan power in the Goldendale Gym as they played two really tough matches against Trout Lake and Sunnyside Christian in the District tournament last Saturday. At the end of the night, Klickwood remains the only undefeated team as they go into the Finals on Wednesday, Nov. 6. And the crowd went wild once again. We are so proud of our team.

Sunnyside Christian and Trout Lake will play the first game Wednesday evening, with the loser out and the winner playing Klickwood to determine first and second place. Let’s hope for another really large cheering section to support our outstanding team and their coaches.

We all owe a big thanks to Sarah Bensel and her staff at the Glenwood Station and Claude McKenzie and his staff at Glenwood General store for, once again, making Halloween night fun and safe for the children of our community. The kids ran safely all over the downtown area, showing off their costumes and filling their bags or buckets with candy. They received caramel apple slices, hot chocolate, and hot cider at the Station, and packets of cookies with decorating ingredients included in the packets. At the store, they had hot chili or hot clam chowder plus yummy treats for their buckets.

The costume contest winners were, from first to fifth place, Gavin Bensel, Frank Lorton, Austin Garrett, Jentry Hoctor, and Graysen Garcia. Decorated trunk winners were Jennifer Hallenbeck in first place with her wonderful cookie monster with giant chocolate chip cookies and Mary Pierce in second with Linus in the pumpkin patch, waiting for the Great Pumpkin to arrive. Generous prizes were given out to the winners at the Glenwood Station. Thank you again for making Halloween 2019 safe and fun. We are very lucky to live in such a great, caring community.

Glenwood School District would like to invite everyone to the Veterans Day celebration in the school gym on Friday, Nov. 8, beginning at 9 a.m. The Glenwood students do a great job of honoring veterans and those who are currently serving in the military. They present a very moving, very patriotic program, and it’s so worth your while to attend.

As reported a few weeks ago, nine-year old Blaine Arnold has qualified to compete in the mini bull riding at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December. In order to help finance his trip, he and his family are raffling off half a pig. There are two halves to be won. Tickets are $20 each, and you can contact Shaynie Arnold at (509) 637-5355 or Taunie Wilson at (509) 833-1481 to purchase one or more chances to win. This is our chance to help this remarkable young cowboy have a wonderful experience in Las Vegas.

A memorial service for Doug Daniels will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, in the Glenwood school gym at 1 p.m. Glenwood is a bit emptier without Doug’s quiet but steady presence around town and at community events.

The Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be Nov. 24 at the school. The church will provide meat, stuffing, and potatoes. Those with last names beginning with A through K, please bring a side dish and/or a dessert, and L through Z please bring a salad and/or a dessert. Call the church at (509) 364-3517 if you have any questions.
