Wolves headed to District

November 6, 2019

The Timberwolves football team captured the fourth, and final, playoff spot by beating the Granger Spartans on a cold Friday night in Granger. The final was 35-13, with the halftime score 14-7 on a late second-quarter touchdown pass from Corbin Bland to Tyler Wells, with three seconds remaining on the clock.

Goldendale scored first on a five-yard touchdown run by Leo Lucatero (20 carries for 98 yards). Granger answered with a touchdown by Diego Isadora of 19 yards to tie things up. Goldendale put together a solid drive after denying Granger on 4th and 3 yards to go, on Goldendale’s 35. After several runs by Lucatero and Bland, Caleb Smith broke a 24 yard 4th down run to Granger’s seven yard line with 29 seconds left. With 3 seconds left in the half, Bland connected with Wells for the go-ahead score. The point after, from Justin DeMott was good, leaving the halftime score 14-7.

The third quarter saw one TD by the Timberwolves, as Corbin Bland sneaked two yards behind the o-line for six points. The PAT was good. In the fourth quarter, the Wolves scored twice, once on a sneak by Bland (the two-point conversion was good). The second came after an interception by Tyler Wells, a short run, an incomplete pass, and a 33 yard TD pass and run to Nick McKune (PAT no good). The scoring was rounded out by a touchdown run by Diego Isadora, with a failed 2-point conversion. That brought the final to 35-13.

Goldendale finishes league with a 3-3 record, beating Cle Elum (Homecoming), Highland and Granger, and losing to LaSalle (league champs), Zillah and Naches Valley. The Timberwolves will travel to Royal City for a cross over matchup with the Knights at 7 p.m., this Friday, Nov. 8.
