County Health urges Hepatitis A vaccinations

Outbreaks reported in Yakima and Spokane counties

The Washington State Department of Health says two counties—including neighboring Yakima County—have been hit with outbreaks of Hepatitis A, and Klickitat County Public Health is offering free vaccinations against the disease for uninsured or underinsured residents.

According to a Nov. 25 communicable disease news release report from Washington State Department of Health, Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) confirmed 61 cases of Hepatitis A in Spokane County. Two adults, both living homeless, died from complications associated with a Hepatitis A infection. Approximately 70 percent of SRHD cases were hospitalized.
