Campaign on for WWII Highway

A group of local citizens is seeking to rename the stretch of U.S. Highway 97 that runs through Klickitat County from milepost 0 at the Oregon/Washington State line to milepost 33.52 at the Klickitat/Yakima County line the “World War II Veterans Memorial Highway.”

U.S. Army veteran John Miller, who served more than 31 years (including two tours of duty in Vietnam), is enthusiastically championing this effort. He says, “The majority of vets are very dedicated and believe in whatever mission they are on.” He notes that Oregon has 18 markers along highways 84 and 97 for World War II veterans, and he would like to see the theme continued. “How better can we both visually and perman...
