November 14, 1918 – 101 Years Ago

The U.S. Government asked a loan from the people of the country of six billion dollars, an amount unprecedented in the history of the world. In three weeks’ time, in spite of an epidemic of influenza which prevented public meetings and cost the people many millions of dollars in medical bills and time lost, and in spite of peace rumors that had a tendency to make the success of the loan seen less vital, over 21,000,000 Americans offered to the Government $6,866,416, 300.
