January 1, 1881 – 139 Years Ago

The Sentinel will be enlarged to an Eight-Column Newspaper on Jan. 8, 1881, which will make it the “LARGEST” paper published North of the Columbia River. It will be the aim of the publishers to give its readers all the hottest local news and editorials on all subjects of interest to the residents of this fast-growing and fertile grass county of Klickitat, items of general news from all sections of the Pacific Slope, agricultural notes and reading matter suitable for the stock-raiser, merchant, laborer, wife, daughter, or son.
