New Drama club director looks to inspire kids and community

39 STEPS DOWNSTAGE CENTER: The cast and crew from the Goldendale High School Drama Club all on stage at a rehearsal before their show, The 39 Steps, opened last week. You can still catch it this Thursday, Friday, or Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Goldendale Middle School cafeteria. Tickets are $5, $3 for seniors.

It's 1935. You see a tilted camera angle shot, presaging Hitchcock's more developed screen style that would unfold over the next decades. Then there's Robert Donat, one of the most celebrated film stars of the era, making his way into a theater where he will witness a demonstration of prodigious mental skill by Mr. Memory. Shots are fired, and-well, a riveting series of events ensues. It's The 39 Steps, a film even genius Orson Welles once called a masterpiece. You can get caught up in all the thrills and humor by attending the Goldendale High School Drama Club's production of the play adapted from the movie this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Feb. 20, 21, and 22, at 7:30 p.m. each night...
