Wrong impression

U.S. health insurance lobbying, with an information vacuum and misinformation regarding our Canadian neighbor, has obscured important facts about their single-payer universal health care system:

(1) It costs only 60 percent of the US system, with better results (life expectancy, infant mortality, etc.) and similar treatment wait times (Michael Rachlis, Aug. 8, 2009, Los Angeles Times).

(2) It is very popular: When Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper acquired a 2011 conservative Parliamentary majority, guaranteeing passage of any conservative legislation, he assured Canadians of no change in the single-payer system. Moreover, Tommy Douglas, former Baptist minist...
