KPUD approves customer relief measures

Disconnection stopped for non-payment, late fees waived, meeting held by phone

March 25, 2020

The Klickitat Public Utility District (KPUD) will stop disconnections due to non-payment, waive late fees, and make commissioners meeting available to the public via telephone or other means during the current coronavirus crisis.

A KPUD press release this morning (Thursday, March 26) states the utility was directed “to hold public meetings that are accessible to the public via telephone or other electronic means rather than as an in-person meeting” in Gov. Jay Inslee’s “Stay at Home” proclamation Monday. This process was already in place with the KPUD commissioner meeting on March 24. Future KPUD commissioner meetings will be accessible in a similar manner.

At their March 25 meeting, Klickitat PUD commissioners unanimously approved a resolution allowing for methods to help provide relief for those customers impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. The resolution allows Klickitat PUD to “take reasonable actions to mitigate the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on their utility customers.” What this means for customers is that the utility has suspended disconnection of services due to non-payment; and late payment fees are being waived.

The KPUD says customers are encouraged to maintain contact regarding their accounts and to call customer service if they become affected by this situation. “Klickitat PUD is continuing to work with impacted customers that are unable to pay their bill in full,” the press release stated. “Payment arrangements can be made to help mitigate the economic impacts. Customers are also encouraged to access additional assistance programs such as Operation Warm Heart and Washington Gorge Action Program (WAGAP).”

Account information is available 24/7 through SmartHub which can be accessed either through KPUD’s website or through the SmartHub app on smart phones and devices. Customers can contact customer service representatives by phone at either (800) 548-8357 or (800) 548-8358.

KPUD updates can be found on the KPUD website at and on
