Grocers remain ramped up for curbside delivery

April 3, 2020

This story ran online last week and appeared in print this week. We've been asked to re-distribute it online. Readers are asked as best as possible to observe the instructions for calling in, in order to help the stores process orders smoothly.

In order to slow the spread of Covid-19 while remaining open to serve our community, our local markets are now offering curbside pickup.

Both Market Fresh and Holcomb’s have instituted advanced cleaning procedures and are taking steps to enforce social distancing.

Bruce Holcomb, Owner of Holcomb’s Sentry, reports that cleaning has been drastically increased. “We are constantly cleaning with bleach; the carts, check stands, freezer door handles, all surfaces,” he says. Sanitizing wipes (for customer use) are available in the entrance, and hand sanitizer is available at check stands. Caution tape has been placed at the check stands to help enforce social distancing. Signage has been placed outside the store to advise customers about how to maintain social distance while inside the store.

Holcomb’s began offering curbside pickup Monday. Orders can be called in to 773-4958 between 9 and 11 a.m. The order will be filled, and you’ll be called back with a pick-up time scheduled between 2 and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Customers can call when they arrive, get their order, and pay without entering the store.

Goldendale Market Fresh is still trying to resolve an issue with its distributor that led to the store not being able to honor its advertised prices last week. A pricing discrepancy with the distributor forced the store to put up signs saying it could not honor its ad prices, which is also why there was no advertising flyer for the grocery in this week’s newspaper. A resolution is expected soon.

In the meantime, Goldendale Market Fresh has also stepped up sanitation procedures including disinfecting surfaces, bathrooms, carts, and carry baskets multiple times throughout the day. Sanitizing wipes are available for customers to use on cart handles and their hands.

Additionally, Goldendale Market Fresh has initiated curbside pickup available Monday through Friday. Customers can call their orders to the store. Orders made before 2 p.m. for curbside payment can be picked up the same day by 4 p.m., those made after 2 p.m. can be picked up the next day. There is a $2 service fee for orders under $25; orders over $25 will not be charged a fee. All products, including alcohol and tobacco, are eligible for curbside pickup; and PIN-based payments must be made inside the store. For more information, call the store at 773-3072, text (509) 250-3316, or email

Both stores are open regular business hours 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at this time.
