Story sparks diverse response


Last week’s story in The New Yorker magazine, focusing on disparate reactions to the pandemic in Klickitat County, has predictably drawn diverse reaction from county residents.

The Sentinel has received a mix of responses; on one hand, some suggested the newspaper dig into why a “Communist publication” in New York City did an “assassination piece,” as one reader put it, on Klickitat County Sheriff Bog Songer. Others felt the New Yorker didn’t delve deeply enough, even with more than 6,000 words, into the situation in the county.

In short, it didn’t please everyone.

Principals quoted in the story took no issue, including Songer. “I felt the author did a fair job,” he said...
