Dual petitions take sides on Sheriff's Office

One calls for support and sustaining funding for the department


A petition in support of local police is currently circulating online, with more than 1,500 signatures to date.

Organizer Sarah Wold writes she began the petition in response to one completed recently demanding the county commissioners defund the sheriff's department. That petition closed with about 400 signatures. Like that one, the current petition-with 17 pages of signatures in an accompanying PDF document-contains many signatures of people from outside Klickitat County.

"Don't stay silent!" the Wold petition states. "Show your support for our police force and the sacrifices they make by signing this petition, and stop the defunding process."
