Firefighters were amazing


Last Thursday afternoon our quiet community suddenly became a beehive of activity as a fire started on a ridge at the top of Bertschi Road. Our Glenwood Volunteer Fire Department was first on the scene and likely would have been able to contain the fire themselves if not for the fierce, hot wind blowing up there. The fire quickly spread across the ridge toward Fisher Hill Road. Other fire departments joined the fight and the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) soon arrived with troops and took over command.

Many of us down here in the valley were in awe of the air power used to attack the fire for hours. Helicopters made water drops and air tankers made drop after drop of borate...
