June 27, 1935 – 85 Years Ago

A spectacular blaze, of unknown origin, destroyed the old Klickitat Flouring Mill in Goldendale about one o’clock Sunday morning, involving a loss of $6,000. The mill, the second oldest in Klickitat County, had been idle for several years but still housed part of the machinery used when it was in operation. Built in the 1880s by Daniel Scammon, it was operated by him for several years, changing hands from time to time, until the Morgan failure when it was taken over by the Pioneer State Bank for money due.
